Entry Five - Project Lockdown

Radiation Electronics.

I am happy to say I have selected a CubeSat project that will work well for me. I would like to assess the impact of space radiation on electronics, specifically solid state memory devices and protection afforded by different shielding materials. I could deploy a small CubeSat with solid state memory cards against walls on as many sides as possible. I would put different types of protection around each card and include a radiation sensor. The computer would periodically test and record the state of each memory card and transmit down the data. Although this type of testing has been done by NASA before, I could volunteer to test new radiation protection materials since new materials are emerging every day. I think this project is feasible for me and I hope I can get the support and mentorship I need to launch this project - literally and figuratively.
