Entry Eleven - Multi-Color Objects
As my 3D printed structures evolved from being static, simple objects to prints possessing fine detail and movable parts, I felt ready at some point to take on a new challenge: Printing a multi-color object. In order to do this, you need to have a printer with multiple reels, so you can mount different colored filaments. The trick to incorporating multiple colors into an object is to make sure the parameters are set correctly, so that when the printer switches to a new filament, the boundary between the new color and old color on the printed structure is crisp and the different filaments bond well to each other to create an integrated final object. I tried my hand at using four different filaments (gray, red, yellow) to create a spaceship and I was quite pleased with the result.
